Lady Reds Receive Postseason Honors
(4-25-05) India Williamson, a sophomore pitcher, was selected as the Newcomer of the Year in the Lone Star Conference North Divison and a Second Team All-LSC North selection. Shortstop Shae Moore was the only First Team All-Conference selection for the Lady Reds. Infielders Jessica Batdorf, Brooke Smith and outfielder Kristy Seachris earned Second Team All-Conference Honors. Catcher Vanessa Cook and first baseman Krystal sanders were Honorable Mentions selections. Back to top

NSU Wins Eighth Straight Game (4-3-05) PITTSBURG, Kansas --- Northeastern State ran its winning streak to eight games Sunday with a doubleheader non-conference sweep at Pittsburg State. The Lady Reds, 25-21, beat the Gorillas 5-1 in the opener, then needed nine innings to edge PSU 5-3 in the nightcap.In the first game the Lady Reds pounded out 12 hits and India Williamson tossed a complete game one-hitter for her ninth win over the year against four losses. NSU scored once in the first inning before putting the game away in the sixth with three runs when Krystal Sanders and Brooke Smith each belted home runs. Kristy Seachris also homered in the NSU seventh for the Lady Reds. Williamson's only blemish came in the second she committed an error and allowed an unearned run to score. She ended the day with 11 strikeouts and five walks. The nightcap went into extra innings when the Gorillas scored twice in the seventh to knot the game at 3-all. After neither team scored in the eighth, NSU plated two runs in the top of the ninth to claim the win. Jessica Batdorf and Seachris hit back-to-back singles with one out and the inning was extended when Sanders reached on an error that allowed Batdorf to score the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run. Seachris later scored on Serena Clinton's fielder's choice for a 5-3 Lady Reds' advantage. Lacie O'Dell, who pitched the entire game, gave up a walk and a single with one out before the next two batters grounded out to end the game. O'Dell ran her record in the circle to 8-6 with the victory. Northeastern State will resume Lone Star North Division play at Midwestern State this weekend for a four-game series in Wichita Falls, Texas. Lady Reds Trip Missouri Southern Twice (4-2-05) JOPLIN, Mo. --- Northeastern State swept a non-conference softball doubleheader at Missouri Southern Saturday afternoon. The Lady Reds scored four times in the top of the seventh to edge the Lions 7-4, then picked up a 2-0 shutout to improve to 23-21 on the year.In the opener, MSSU (17-17) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-3 advantage heading into the final frame. However, the Lady Reds responded with a rally to claim the victory. Jessica Batdorf led off the seventh with a double and moved to third on Kristy Searchris' fielder's choice. Krystal Sanders drew a walk and April Ball also walked to bring in the tying run. Serena Clinton kept the inning alive by reaching safely on an error that scored Seachris and Brooke Smith singled up the middle to score two runners for the 7-4 NSU lead. Jessica Johnson, who pitched the complete game to improve her record in the circle to 5-5, got two Lions' hitters to ground out and another to fly out to right field to end the game. Batdorf and Smith collected a pair of hits apiece to lead NSU's five-hit attack. In the second contest Stevie Bailey picked up her second win in as many outings with a four-hit complete game as NSU scored its only runs of the game in the fifth frame. NSU managed only three hits in the nightcap but was opportunistic by capitalizing on three Missouri Southern errors, two of those coming in the fifth, along with three walks, that led to final verdict. Northeastern State will remain on the road to face Pittsburg State for a matinee twinbill Sunday before resuming Lone Star North action for a four-game series at Midwestern State next weekend. Lady Reds Cruise Past Bears (3-30-05) CONWAY, Ark. --- Northeastern State swept a college softball doubleheader at Central Arkansas Wednesday afternoon, 6-3 and 2-0, to improve to 21-21 on the season.The Lady Reds got two good pitching performances from India Williamson and Lacie O'Dell, while its offense pounded out 13 hits on the day. Williamson ran her record in the circle to 8-4 with the victory in the opener by tossing a complete game with 10 strikeouts and scattering five hits. O'Dell improved to 7-6 with a complete game of her own by fanning seven and surrendering only four UCA (11-15) hits. In the first game NSU broke a 1-1 deadlock in the fifth by pushing four runs across the plate to take the lead for good. Brooke Smith and Shae Moore had RBI singles in the frame and Jessica Batdorf, this week's Lone Star North Hitter of the Week, blasted a triple that scored two runners in the inning. Smith led NSU's offensive attack by going three-for-four and Batdorf was two-for-three at the plate. The nightcap was a pitcher's duel until the Lady Reds used the long ball to get the victory. Kristy Seachris homered with one out in the fifth for a 1-0 NSU advantage and Smith belted a walk-off homer to start the sixth to put give the Lady Reds a 2-0 lead. Serena Clinton was two-for-three in the second game to pace NSU. Lady Reds Trip Savages Twice (3-25-05) TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State played perhaps its best all-around game of the year and belted Southeastern Oklahoma State 8-0 and 6-2 in a Lone Star North softball twinbill at Lady Reds Park Friday.NSU, which dropped a pair to the Savages just two days ago, improved to 19-21 overall and 8-8 in league play. SOSU lost for the first time in LSC North action and fell to 35-13 and 10-2. Jessica Johnson tossed a three-hit shutout in the opener to improve to 4-5 on the year. NSU chased SOSU starter Christina Cearley from the circle with four runs on five hits in the third inning for a 4-0 advantage. The Lady Reds put the game out of reach in the fourth on Brooke Smith's three-run homer and April Ball ended the game in the fifth with an RBI single that scored Jessica Batdorf. In the nightcap NSU plated a run in the second when Batdorf doubled adn sxoredon Krystal Sanders' double to right-center field for a 1-0 lead. The Lady Reds scored three times in the third, one coming off Smith's towering solo homer and Batdorf's 2-RBI double for a 4-0 lead. NSU increased its lead to 5-0 after four innings. SOSU got a pair of runs in the next two frames and Northeastern added an insurance tally in the sixth for the final outcome. Stevie Bailey (2-6) and India Williamson combined on a five-hitter in the second game. Bailey, a freshman, scattered four hits in 4 2/3 innings and Williamson surrendered just one hit over the final 2 1/3 to pick up the save. The Lady Reds jumped on two Savage pitchers for 10 hits. Smith ended the day by going five-for-seven at the plate with two home runs, six RBI and three run scored. Batdorf was four-for-six and all four were doubles. Lady Reds Drop Two at Southeastern (3-23-05) DURANT, Okla. --- Southeastern Oklahoma State flexed its muscle with a Lone Star North softball sweep over Northeastern State here Wednesday. The Lady Savages (33-11 overall and 10-0 in league play) scored four times in the sixth of the opener for a 4-2 win, then rolled to 9-2 decision in the nightcap.NSU fell to 17-21 on the year and 6-8 in LSC North action. The league twinbill was originally scheduled to be played in Tahlequah, but wet field conditions forced the site to be swapped. Lady Reds Sweep Aggies (3-14-05) TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- India Williamson tossed a two-hitter and struck out 12 to lead Northeastern State past Cameron, 2-0, in the first game of a Lone Star Conference softball twinbill at Lady Reds Park Monday afternoon.In the nightcap, NSU pounded out 10 hits and scored six runs in the first two innings to win, 6-3, and earn a sweep of the game. NSU improved to 6-6 in league play and 14-17 overall. Cameron fell to 1-7 and 5-21. Williamson, a sophomore, pitched a complete game and ran her record to 6-3 on the year. Her only hits allowed came in the first and fourth innings. NSU scored a run in the fourth when Kristy Seachris singled home Jessica Batdorf for a 1-0 advantage. The Lady Reds added an insurance run in the fifth when Batdorf doubled to left field to score Brooke Smith from second. In the second game, Northeastern scored three times in the first, before putting the game away with three more in the second for a 6-0 cushion. Shae Moore singled with one out and moved to third on Vanessa Cook's ground-out and a wild pitch. After Batdorf drew a walk and Seachris was hit by a pitch, Krystal Sanders cleared the bases with a triple for a 3-0 lead. NSU was led offensively by Seachris who was three-for-three at the plate. In the second, Cook delivered a three-run homer to right field to put the Lady Reds in cruise control. Cameron scored once in the third and twice in the seventh for the final outcome. Lacie O'Dell (5-5) pitched a complete game, surrendering eight hits and fanning four. Moore was four-for-four in the second game to lead NSU's 10-hit attack. Lady Rattlers Bite Lady Reds (3-10-05) Tahlequah, OK --- Northeastern State dropped a pair of games to St. Mary's University falling in game one 1-0 and 2-0 in the nightcap.In game one, St. Mary's Elizabeth Beyer accounted for the game's only run as she belted a solo home run over the center field fence to the Lady Rattlers a 1-0 cushion. That was all pitcher Malissa Magee needed as she kept NSU batters at bay. Magee only allowed four hits while striking out seven. Tulsa freshman Jessica Johnson pitched seven strong innings, allowing eight hits while striking out five. In game two, the Lady Reds once again could not get a run across the plate. The Lady Reds had two good chances, but could not convert. A failed squeez play with NSU trailing 1-0 shut the door on any Lady Red rally. The Lady Rattlers scored one in the fifth and sealed the victory with one in the seventh. St. Mary's improved to 18-3 on the year, while the Lady Reds fall to 10-16. Next action for the Lady Reds will be this Sunday and Monday when the Aggies from Cameron visit Lady Reds Park. NSU Falls at Central Oklahoma (3-3-05) EDMOND, Okla. --- Northeastern State lost its fourth game in three days to Central Oklahoma here Thursday afternoon as the Bronchos edged NSU 4-1 and 2-1 in a Lone Star Conference North softball twinbill.The Lady Reds lost their eighth consecutive game and had its record drop to 6-12 and 0-4. UCO improved to 11-3 and 4-0. Central Oklahoma took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, then added three in the fourth to take control. Lacie O'Dell gave up eight hits and suffered the loss to fall to 3-4 on the year. NSU managed only two hits in the first game with Krystal Sanders and Jessica Batdorf collecting a single each. In the nightcap, the Lady Reds struck first with a run in the third when Vanessa Cook singled home Brooke Smith with one out. However, NSU failed to hold the lead when the Bronchos plated two runs in the fourth inning after the Lady Reds failed to throw out a runner at the plate on a fielder's choice and the winning run coming with the bases loaded and relief pitcher Jessica Johnson hit a batter. Johnson gave up only one hit in 3 2/3 innings of work. She and Stevie Bailey combined to toss a four-hitter in a losing cause. NSU gathered six hits with Smith, Shae Moore, Cook, Sanders, Shannon Meiwes and Serena Clinton all reaching safely. Northeastern State will remain in the Oklahoma City area to participate Friday and Saturday in the UCO Classic in Mustang. UCO Trips Lady Reds Twice (3-1-05) TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Central Oklahoma made the most of its scoring opportunities and held off Northeastern State, 1-0 and 4-3, in a Lone Star Conference North Division twinbill at Lady Reds Park Tuesday afternoon.NSU lost for the sixth straight time and fell to 6-10 and 0-2 in league play, while the Bronchos improved to 9-3 and 2-0. In the opener, NSU managed just five hits over seven innings but stranded a total of eight runners on base. The lone run of the game came for UCO in the second inning after a bases-loaded single. In the nightcap, the Bronchos opened up a 4-0 advantage after 3 1/2 innings before NSU's bats came to life. The Lady Reds cut their deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the frame after Vanessa Cook singled to start the inning and Patty Keho moved Cook to second on a sacrifice bunt. Krystal Sanders and Kristy Seachris hit back-to-back doubles for a pair of runs and Seachris scored on Jessica Batdorf's RBI single to center. However, that's as close as NSU would get. Lacie O'Dell took the loss in the first game and India Williamson suffered the setback in the nightcap. The two teams will meet again on Thursday, March 3, in Edmond for a doubleheader. NSU Sweeps Pitt State (2-22-05) TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State relied on its offense in the first game, then got a solid pitching performance in the nightcap to sweep Pittsburg State, 9-8 and 3-1, at Lady Reds Park Tuesday afternoon.The Lady Reds improved to 6-4 on the year, while PSU fell to 1-5. NSU pounded out 15 hits in the opener, but committed five errors which led to seven unearned runs, to eke out the victory. The Lady Reds scored three runs in the first and four in the second to take a commanding 7-1 advantage after two innings. However, the Gorillas pushed a run across in the third, their only earned run of the contest, then added four in the fourth to making things interesting. With the bases loaded and no outs in the fourth, PSU scored three of their four runs after two throwing errors on the same play from NSU's pitcher and catcher. By the end of the frame, Northeastern held a 7-6 lead. NSU quickly regained control in the bottom of the inning. Krystal Sanders singled to center with one out and Kristy Seachris hit an inside-the-park home run to put the Lady Reds up 9-6. The Gorrilas made a comeback bid in the sixth by plating a pair of runs after another NSU error to make it a 9-8 NSU lead. O'Dell (3-1) then retired the side in order in the seventh to preserve the victory. In the nightcap, India Williamson tossed a three-hitter and survived only one scare to record her second win in three tries this season. williamson, a Skiatook sophomore, had a no-hitter going through four innings before getting into a jam in the fifth. PSU's Emily Gastineau led off the fifth with a single to left field before Lady Reds' shortstop, Shae Moore, turned a double play. Lady Reds Split at UCA Tourney (2-18-05) CONWAY, Ark. --- India Williamson tossed a three-hitter and Northeastern State cruised to a 7-2 victory over Henderson State at the Central Arkansas/US Bank Softball Classic here Friday afternoon.In the first game of the day, Ouachita Baptist scored in the top of the eighth to log a 2-1 win over NSU. The Lady Reds improved to 4-2 on the year and will play twice on Saturday. NSU is slated to meet Delta State at 10 a.m. then play North Alabama at noon. Williamson, a sophomore, evened her record to 1-1 with a solid performance on the mound. she struck out five and did not allow a walk in tossing the complete game. Her only flaws were two solo home runs. NSU charged back from a 1-0 deficit in the third with two runs to take the lead for good. Brooke Smith homered to start the inning and Oktaha sophomore, Shae Moore, singled, stole second and later scored on Vanessa Cook's double. The Lady Reds added another run in the fourth, then plated four runs in the fifth to secure the victory. In the opener, OBU took a 1-0 lead in the fifth before NSU knotted the game with a run in the sixth. Moore walked to lead off the frame and moved to second on Smith's sacrifice bunt. Cook again had the RBI with a single. Northeastern failed to score in the eighth with the International Tie-breaker Rule in effect. Lacie O'Dell, who suffered her first loss in three games, walked the lead-off hitter to put runners at first and second. Following a sacrifice bunt, O'Dell got the next hitter to pup up before the winning run scored on a single. NSU Posts Sweep at Arkansas Tech (2-17-05) RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. --- Vanessa Cook singled home Shae Moore with two outs in the sixth inning as Northeastern State held off Arkansas Tech, 4-3, in the first game of a softball twinbill at Worldpitch Park Thursday afternoon.In the nightcap, freshman Jessica Johnson hurled a three-hitter and the Lady Reds earned a sweep with a 3-0 shutout over the Golden Suns. NSU improved to 3-1 on the year, while ATU evened its record at 2-2. With the score tied at 3-all in the sixth, Moore singled then stole second base. After a strikeout, Cook delivered the RBI game-winner for a 4-3 NSU edge. Northeastern pounded out 11 hits with Smith, Beth Walters and Krystal Sanders collecting a pair of hits each. Lacie O'Dell, who pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, gave up a double in the bottom of the inning and a single in the seventh and logged her second victory in three days to improve to 2-0. ATU's Brittany williams (0-1) took the loss. The Lady Reds constructed a 3-0 lead through 4 1/2 innings for freshman hurler Stevie Bailey. However, Bailey gave up a pair of singles in the fifth before being relieved by O'Dell. ATU went on to score three runs to knot the game after five innings of play. The second game was a pitching gem for Johnson, who scattered three hits with eight strikeouts and just two walks. Johnson gave up two singles, one in the second and another in the fourth before surrendering a double in the sixth. That was enough defense as the Lady Reds put up a run in the third and two more in the sixth to seal the victory. Offensively, the Lady Reds had six different players collect hits in the second game. And, Smith and Patty Keho each doubled. Northeastern State will stay on the road to participate in the Central Arkansas/US Bank Spring Clash in Conway on Friday and Saturday. Lady Reds Split Opener With MSSU (2/15/05) Tahlequah, OK ---- Northeastern State opened it's 2005 campaign with a split with Missouri Southern 0-2 and 3-0 at Lady Reds Park this afternoon.Both teams are 1-1 on the year. The Lions jumped out to the early lead as Mary Barrow connected on a pitch from India Williamson and sent over the left field fence. The Lady Reds had their chances to tie the game, but poor base running and errors barred NSU from captitalizing on the opportunities to get the win 3-0. Missouri Southern Pitch Amy Schneider (1-0) pitched five strong innings giving up just four hits and striking out two. Katy Owsley came on in relief to get the save. NSU starter India Williamson threw a complete game giving up three runs on three hits, while striking out 4 Lion batters. In game two, NSU starter Lacie O'Dell(1-0) pitched seven innings, striking out three in the 2-0 victory. The Lady Reds pounded out seven hits off Lion pitchers Callie Stanford and Katy Owsley in the contest. The lone runs for Northeastern State came in the third when Krystal Sanders singled home Shae Moore, and in the fourth when Kristy Seachris scored from third on a wild pitch. Next action for the Lady Reds will be this Thursday when it travels to Russellville to meet Arkansas Tech. Next home game is Tuesday Feb. 22 at 1:00 p.m. against Pittsburg State.
