NSU Streaks to 11th Straight Win (4-22-06) TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State won its 11th consecutive softball game here Saturday with a 3-2 and 7-1 sweep over East Central in the Lone Star North finale on Senior Day. The Lady Reds improved to 26-18 overall and 15-9 in league play, while the Tigers fell to a dismal 5-29 and 1-23.It took eight innings in the opener for NSU to dispose of ECU. After a pair of unearned runs in the Tiger sixth tied the game at 2-all, Rachael Christian delivered a double to center field to score the speedy Shae Moore from first base for the game-winning run. Moore had singled to start the NSU eighth. Stevie Bailey tossed a complete game to earn her sixth win of the season against eight losses. The Broken Arrow product allowed five hits and fanned seven on the afternoon. NSU also collected just five hits in the game with Christian collecting two in four plate appearances. Northeastern wasted little time in taking control in the nightcap. Shaelyn Moore drew a bases loaded walk in the second inning for NSU's first run and Brooke Smith drilled a line shot over the center field fence for a grand slam homer for a 5-0 advantage. Christian then belted a triple to right field to score Shae Moore and the route was on. East Central got a run in the third and NSU added an insurance tally in the bottom of the frame and that's all the Lady Reds would need to pick up the victory. Jessica Johnson went the distance to improve to 12-9 on the season. She struck out seven and walked one despite surrendering eight hits. Vanessa Cook was three-for-four to pace NSU's nine-hit attack, while Christian and Dee Tatum had two hits apiece. Northeastern State will play non-conference foe, Pittsburg State, at home on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. The Lady Reds failed to make the LSC Postseason Tournament, but could still be extended an at-large regional playoff berth when those are made public later this month. Lady Reds Continue Streak with Sweep of East Central (4-18-06) ADA, Okla. ---- Northeastern State extended its win streak to nine games with 7-0 and 3-0 victories against East Central on Tuesday at Lady Tiger Field.The Lady Reds improved to 24-18 and 13-9 in the Lone Star Conference North Division, while the Lady Tigers fall to 5-27 and 1-21 conference action. In the opener, India Williamson picked up her 14th win of the year, allowing just three hits and striking out 11 in seven innings of work. Northeastern put three runs on the board in the third, as ECU pitcher Cara Gaskins hit two, and walked three in the inning and took the 3-0 advantage. The Lady Reds would add a run in the fourth and three more in the sixth as Dee Tatum, Rachael Christian and Vanessa Cook all doubled to get the 7-0 victory Shae Moore was 2-3 in the contest with two runs scored and Cook was also 2-3 with a double and two RBI's. In the nightcap, Jessica Johnson picked up her fifth win of the year, allowing five hits and fanning seven Tiger batters in a complete game performance. Rachael Christian was 3-4 with a double, two singles and drove in two as the Lady Reds pounded out 14 hits in the 5-0 victory. Shae Moore, Kristy Seachris,Vanessa Cook and Becca Buirrea combined for eight of the 14 hits on the afternoon. The Lady Reds have now shut out seven of its last nine opponents during the win streak. Lady Reds Sweep Bronchos (4-14-06) EDMOND, Okla. --- Great pitching performances from India Williamson and Jessica Johnson led to the sweep of Central Oklahoma 4-0 and 9-0 at Broncho Field here Friday.The Lady Reds improve to 22-18 and 11-9 in LSC North Division play, as the Bronchos fall to 23-10 and 16-4. With the victories, Northeastern completes the season sweep, taking four straight from Central Oklahoma. In the opener, India Williamson threw a one-hit shutout, walking one and striking out seven to improve to 13-8 on the year. Kristy Seachris went 3-4 with two singles, a double and accounting for three of the four runs, Becca Buirrea was 2-3 with a double and two RBI's. Broncho starter Ali Blake received the loss, to fall to 11-7. In the nightcap, Rachael Christian's three run home run in the first inning was only the beginning as the Lady Reds scored nine runs on 11 hits to get the victory. Jessica Johnson threw a complete game three hitter, walking two and fanning five to improve to 4-2. Three Lady Reds accounted for nine of the 11 hits, Christian, Seachris and Vanessa Cook combined for nine hits and eight RBI's in the game two victory. Lady Reds Tame Bronchos (4-11-06) TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- A two-run home run by Kristy Seachris in the sixth inning of game two, gave Northeastern State the 9-7 victory to complete the sweep of the Bronchos, the Lady Reds took the opener 3-0 in Lone Star Conference North Divison action at Lady Reds Park here Tuesday.The Lady Reds improve to 20-18 and 9-9 in the Lone Star North Division, Central Oklahoma falls to 23-8 and 16-2. In the opener, singles from Shaelyn Moore, Dee Tatum and Brooke Smith allowed the Lady Reds to score three times in the sixth inning to take a 3-0. India Williamson gave up just two hits to get the win and improve to 11-8 on the year. With the victory, the Lady Reds ended a 20-game North Division winning streak that dates back to last season and marked the first shut of the Bronchos since midway through the 2005 season, a stretch of 53 games, according to UCO Media Relations. The Bronchos opened the nightcap by scoring six run on seven hits in the first two inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead. The Lady Reds stormed back in the third inning to knot the game at 6-6, hits from Shaelyn Moore, Rachael Christian, Seachris and Becca Buirrea and two errors allowed Northeastern back in the game. The score remained tied until the fifth inning, as Central Oklahoma received doubles from Karmen Kauk and Lindsey Tripp to take 7-6 advantage. Northeastern battled back in the sixth, Christian doubled to right center, Vanessa Cook's single tied the game at 7-7. Seachris again delivered in the clutch, sending a Alli Blake to pitch out of the park to give the Lady Reds the 9-7 lead. The Bronchos did make things interesting in the seventh, put two on with two outs and a Christin Dobbs fly to right field was caught at the fence to give the Lady Reds the 9-7 sweep of Central Oklahoma. The two teams will meet again this Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Edmond. Lady Reds Sweep Southwestern (4-8-06) TAHLEQUAH, Okla. ---- Kristy Seachris, Rachael Christian, Rebecca Buirrea and Candace Badger all homered in a Lone Star Conference North Division double header sweep of Southwestern at Lady Reds Park on Saturday.The Lady Reds won the opener 6-0 and took the nightcap 6-4. Northeastern State improves to 18-18 and 7-9 in LSC-N as Southwestern falls to 10-31 and 6-14 in conference play. In the opener, the Lady Reds took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Shae Moore singled and then scored on a Rachael Christian double to right center field. Northeastern added three more runs in the third as Brooke Smith drew a lead off walk to begin the inning and would score on a wild pitch. Vanessa Cook singled and scored as Seachris hit the first of two home runs on the afternoon to push the lead to 4-0. In the sixth, Buirrea's two run shot gave the Lady Reds the 6-0 victory. Stevie Bailey went seven innings, only allowing three hits and struck out three, to move to 5-8 on the year. In the nightcap, the Lady Reds scored four runs on four hits, all with two outs to take a commanding 4-0 advantage. Seachris and Badger hit back to back home runs in the inning. The Bulldogs battled back in the third inning, cutting the lead to 4-1 as a fielding error by short stop Shae Moore allowed Southwestern to push across a run. Southwestern would rally in the seventh, scoring four runs on four hits to tie the game at 4-4. Northeastern combated the rally with one of their own, with a runner on first, Christian lined a pitched over the center field fence to capture the victory 6-4. Jessica Johson pitched six innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out six. India Williamson blew a save opportunity but recieved the win and moved to 10-8 on the year. Lady Reds Split Twinbill with So WEATHERFORD, Okla. --- Northeastern State pounded out 15 hits and cruised past the Bulldogs 8-0 in game two of a Lone Star Conference North Division double header at SWOSU Park on Tuesday. Southwestern took game one 3-1.The Lady Reds moved to 16-18 on the year and 5-9 in the LSC-N as Southwestern moved to 9-28 and 6-12 in conference play. Game one saw the Lady Reds strand 11 runners on base and could not take advantage of five Bulldog errors in 3-1 defeat. Southwestern to control of the game in the fourth inning, with the score tied at 1-1, the Bulldogs pounded out 3 hits to plate two runs and take the lead 3-1. Alexandra Zukerman threw a complete game, giving up one run on seven hits and fanned three, Lady Reds starter Jessica Johnson also went the distance giving up three runs on seven hits and struck out three. In game two, Northeastern took control early with a three runs on five hits in the first inning to take the 3-0 lead. The Lady Reds tacked on five more runs in the third inning pounding out eight hits to increase the lead to 8-0. That is all India Williamson would need as she threw five inning giving up only one hit and fanned eight to get her ninth victory of the year. NSU Drops Softball Twinbill at Midwestern (4-1-06) WICHITA FALLS, Texas --- Despite two outstanding pitching performances, Northeastern State dropped a Lone Star North softball doubleheader here Saturday as Midwestern State earned 3-0 and 1-0 victories over the Lady Reds.India Williamson tossed a four-hitter in the opener but got no run support as she fell to 8-8 on the season. Williamson surrendered all three runs to the Mustangs in the sixth inning. MSU plated three runs on three hits, two of which were bunt singles, and an error. In the nightcap, Stevie Bailey tossed a complete game three-hitter, but once again NSU failed to manage any runs. The game's lone score came in the Midwestern State third when Kristen Stonecipher hit an RBI single to right-center field for the game-winner. Lady Reds Split with Missouri Southern (3-30-06) TAHLEQUAH, OKLA. ---- Sapulpa freshman Shaelyn Moore singled and scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Northeastern State the 3-2 victory in game one of a double header with Missouri Southern. The Lions took game two 4-3 at Lady Reds Park on a windy Thursday afternoon.The Lady Reds move to 15-15 on the year and Missouri Southern moves to 12-10. Game one was delayed in the third inning due to lighting in the area, once the game resumed, the Lions J.T. Taylor doubled to left, that was followed by single Angie Turner . Taylor would score on a passed ball and Turner scored on a ground out to second to give Southern the 2-0 lead. Glenpool junior, Rebecca Buirrea, led off the fifth with a single. Lindsay Marks then laid down a sacrifice bunt to Buirrea to second. Shaelyn Moore and Brooke Smith both drew walks to load the bases. The Lady Reds would proceed to tie the game when pinch hitter Candace Badger hit into a fielder's choice to knot the game at 2-2. Jessica Johnson came on in relief of starter India Williamson in the fifth, silenced the Lion batters in the final three innings. Shaelyn Moore singled to lead off the Lady Reds half of the seventh, Smith then reached on a fielder's choice. Shae Moore sacrificed the runners to second and third. Rachael Christian hit a ground ball to second base that allowed Shaelyn Moore to scoring the winning run. Missouri Southern jumped out to 3-0 lead in the second inning. Missouri Southern's Afton Horst hit a lazy, two out fly ball that fell in front of the right fielder, clearing the bases to take the lead. The Lady Reds fought back in the fourth, Vanessa Cook led off with a double and moved to third on a Dee Tatum ground out and scored on a sacrifice to cut the deficit to 3-1. Northeastern managed to tie the game at 3-3 in the fifth, scoring two runs on four hits. Missouri Southern went ahead 4-3 in the six inning as Amanda Godfrey's single to center scored the go ahead run for the Lions. Lady Reds Spilt Twinbill with Midwestern (3-28-06) TAHLEQUAH, OKLA. ---- Vanessa Cook's two-out single in the eighth inning gave the Lady Reds a 2-1 victory in game two of a double header against Midwestern, the Mustangs took the first game 2-0 at Lady Reds Park here Tuesday.The Lady Reds move to 14-14 and 4-6 in the LSC-N, as Midwestern moves to 27-8 and 10-4 in conference action. In the opener, India Williamson (8-7) walked two batters and a fielding error in the third inning allowed the Mustangs to load the base and Kristin Sonecipher's sacrifice fly scoredMidwestern's Rachael Jackson sealed the victory in the top of the seventh with a lead off home run to give the Mustangs the 2-0 victory. The Lady Reds out hit Midwestern 5-4, but committed three errors and could not advance a runner past second base in the loss. In the nightcap, Becca Buirrea's solo shot to left center put the Lady Reds on top 1-0. Midwestern however, tied the game in the fourth as Jessica Rodriguez and Jackson both singled and a throwing error by the right fielder allowed Rodriguez to score and tie the game at 1-1. Lady Reds Split at Missouri Southern (3-25-06) JOPLIN, Mo. --- Rachael Christian, Vanessa Cook and Shaelyn Moore belted two hits each to lift Northeastern State to a 7-3 victory over Missouri Southern State in the second game of a softball doubleheader at Gene Wild Field Saturday afternoon. In the opener, the Lady Lions scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to claim a 1-0 victory as the teams split on the day.Stevie Bailey tossed a complete game for the Lady Reds. The Broken Arrow sophomore scattered five hits and struck out two to improve to 3-6 on the season with the Game 2 victory. NSU (13-13) got on the board in the first inning when Christian drove home Shae Moore with an RBI double to left field for a 1-0 lead. Northeastern State added three in the second, aided by three MSSU errors, as it built a 4-0 advantage. The Lady Lions (11-7) plated a run in the fifth but NSU countered with two insurance runs in the sixth. Christian and Cook delivered RBI singles to extend the Lady Reds' margin to 6-1 and an inning later, Shaelyn Moore's RBI double provided the final scoring output for Northeastern State. In the opener, hard-luck starter India Williamson pitched a complete game with a two-hitter and 12 strikeouts but lost her sixth game of the season against eight wins. Williamson walked only one batter, that coming in the bottom of the sixth, and the Lady Lions collected back-to-back singles to score the game's only run. NSU Goes 2-4 on Spring Break Trip (3-20-06) Northeastern State's sweep through south Texas was less than successful as the Lady Reds split games with St. Edward's and St. Mary's and dropped a twinbill at Incarnate Word. Southeastern 4-0 In Season Match-Up's with Reds (3/14/06) DURANT, Okla. --- Southeastern Oklahoma State swept a Lone Star North softball doubleheader over Northeastern State here Tuesday. The Savage Storm won the opener 2-0 then used a four-run second inning to take a 7-3 victory and record a sweep of the four games played in two days.NSU fell to 10-8 overall and 3-5 in league play with the losses, while SOSU improved to 24-4 and 4-0. India Williamson took the loss in the first game despite tossing a three-hitter. The junior fanned four and walked one, but allowed SOSU to score a run in the fourth and another in the sixth. Williamson saw her record fall to 6-3 with the loss. NSU managed just four hits in the opener, all of which were singles. Carly Cearley got the win and improved her record on the mound to 12-1. In the nightcap the Lady Reds scored twice in the first inning when Brooke Smith doubled to lead off the game and Rachael Christian homered for a 2-0 NSU advantage. However, SOSU countered with four in the bottom of the second, three of those coming off Rachel Lynn's homer. The Savage Storm opened up a 6-2 lead with two more runs in the third and NSU came no closer than 6-3 when Shaelynn Moore scored off Smith's RBI double in the Lady Reds' fourth. Stevie Bailey gave up eight hits and took the loss to fall to 2-4 on the year. Jami McAdoo improved to 3-1 with the win. Smith collected four hits in four plate appearances to lead an 11-hit NSU attack. Christian, Lindsay Marks and Moore each had two hits for the Lady Reds as well. Northeastern State will make an extended trip to Texas this week and will play twinbills at St. Edward's on Thursday, St. Mary's on Friday and Incarnate Word on Saturday before taking a week off. Southeastern Rallies to Sweep NSU (3-13-06) TAHLEQUAH, OKLA. --- Southeastern scored seven runs in the seventh inning to overcome a 5-1 deficit to complete the sweep of the Lady Reds 4-0 and 8-5 in Lone Star Conference action at Lady Reds Park on Monday.Southeastern improves to 22-4 and 2-0 in LSC-N action, while the Lady Reds fall to 10-6 and 3-3. With two outs in the top of the seventh inning, an arrant throw from third baseman Brooke Smith created a snowball effect for the Lady Reds as the Savage Storm pounded out five hits and took advantage of three errors to make an unbelievable comeback and win 8-5. Northeastern was in control upto that point, as pitcher Stevie Bailey gave up one run on five hits over six innings. Unlike in game one, the Lady Reds offense came alive, scoring three runs in the second inning as Dee Tatum and Smith both doubled to give NSU the early 3-0 advantage. Northeastern added two more in the third Kristy Searchris and Lindsay Marks doubled to plate two more to push the lead to 5-0. Southeastern managed a run in the fifth inning as Beth Farrar singled and later scored on a Kylie Ferguson single to to right field. Stevie Bailey threw seven strong innings, giving up 10 hits and one earned run. The Savage Storm took game one 4-0, behind the arm of Christina Cearly who gave up four hits and struck out nine batters. India Williamson threw seven innings giving up four runs on 10 hits. Southeastern scored the games first run after four shutout innings by both pitchers. Kylie Ferguson's flyball to third base was misplayed and allow Farrar to score. The Storm would add another run in the sixth and put the game away in the seventh with two more to win 4-0. The Lady Reds will again face Southeastern on Tuesday in Durant and then travel to Austin and San Antonio, Texas to take on St. Edward's and St. Mary's on Thursday and Friday. Lady Reds Sweep Cameron (3-11-06) LAWTON, OKLA --- Northeastern State recieved two great pitching performances from India Williamson and Stevie Bailey in a double-header sweep of the lady Aggies at Cameron Field on Saturday.The Lady Reds improve to 10-4 and 3-1 in LSC-N play, as Cameron falls to 13-16 and 1-3 in conference action. In game one, the Lady Reds came out swinging with singles from Shae Moore, Rachael Christian and Candace Badger to plate the first run of the inning. Two Cameron errors allowed another run to score to put the Lady Reds up 2-0. That is all Williamson would need as she threw a complete game, giving up only four hits and fanning eight. In game two, the Lady Reds received doulbles from Kristy Searchris and Vanessa Cook in the fourth and sixth innings to provide the 3-0 victory. Stevie Bailey went the distance, giving up two hits and striking out six. Next action for the Lady Reds will be on Monday as it will entertain Southeastern, first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.. Lady Reds Split Conference Opener with Cameron (3/7/06) TAHLEQUAH, OKLA. --- Northeastern State captured game one of a double-header with Cameron 3-2, but fell in the nightcap 3-0, in Lonestar North Division action at Lady Reds Park here Tuesday.Northeastern State moves to 8-4 and 1-1 in LSC-N action, the Lady Aggies move to 13-14 and 1-1 on the year. Rachael Christian, a junior from Broken Arrow, drove in two of the three runs including a solo home run in the first inning. Tied at 2-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh, senior Kristy Seachris led off with a double, Rebecca Buirrea singled to put runners on first and third. Dee Tatum walked to load the bases. Shae Moore then layed down a bunt and was thrown out at first, but the catcher failed to touch the plate and Seachris scored the winning run. India Williamson, a junior from Skiatook, threw a complete game to move to 5-1 on the year. In game two, the Lady Aggies took advantage of Lady Reds errors and took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and made it stick as Northeastern could not muster any offense off pitcher Brittany Stefinsky who only allowed four hit in seven innings. The Lady Reds will travel to Missouri Southern on Thursday and Cameron on Saturday before returning home on Monday March 13 to face Southeastern. Hot Bats Spark Lady Reds to Win (3-4-06) AMARILLO, Texas --- Rachael Christian had three hits, including a home run, as Northeastern State pounded out 15 hits and throttled St. Edward's, 11-5, in its first game at the West Texas A&M Softball Tournament at Rick Klein Complex Saturday.NSU improved to 6-1 on the year, while SEU fell to 13-7. Christian was three-for-four at the plate with three RBI and four other NSU players had multiple hits. Shae Moore, Candace Badger, Kristy Seachris and Shaelyn Moore each had two and every starter logged at least a single. Northeastern struck with four runs in the first inning and two more in the second to take a 6-0 lead. St. Edward's countered with four runs in the third inning to make things interesting. Lady Reds' starter, India Williamson, surrendered three of her five hits in the frame to bring the score to 6-4. However, NSU plated one run int he fourth and three more in the fifth to pull away. Williamson fanned six and walked only one to pick up the victory and run her record to 3-0 on the season. Lady Reds Complete Season Sweep of Sugar Bears (2-28-06) CONWAY, Ark. --- Northeastern State completed the season sweep of Central Arkansas taking game one 10-3 and game two 2-0 at Farris Field on Tuesday.The Lady Reds improve to 5-1 on the year, while the Sugar Bears fall to 2-6. Down 2-1 in game one, the Lady Reds exploded to score five runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to take a commanding 9-2 advantage. Shae Moore went 4-4 in the first game and Candace Badger hit her first home run of the year and drove in four runs in the 10-3 victory. Stevie Bailey pitched seven strong innings giving up three runs on nine hits, while striking out nine UCA batters. Game two was more of a pitchers dual as Jessica Johnson threw seven shutout innings while giving up only two hits and striking out 11 batters. Senior Shae Moore and catcher Jessica Sheridan drove in the two Lady Reds runs. The Lady Reds will return to action this weekend as it will take part in the West Texas A&M Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Lady Reds Split at Pitt State (2-22-06) PITTSBURG, Kan. --- Northeastern State plated two insurance runs in the top of the sixth as the Lady Reds held off Pittsburg State, 3-0, in the first game of a softball twinbill here Wednesday afternoon. In the nightcap, PSU's Anna Bott tossed a two-hitter as the Gorillas earned a 2-0 win and a split on the day.NSU (3-1) had only four hits in the opener, but made the most of its opportunities as India Williamson picked up her second win of the young season. The Lady Reds struck first with a run in the second inning when Dee Tatum led off the inning by drawing a free base after being hit by a pitch from Pitt State starter, Stephanie Moore. Jessica Batdorf's sacrifice moved Tatum to second and she later scored on Shae Moore's single for a 1-0 NSU advantage. In the sixth, Kristy Seachris belted a two-run homer for a pair of insurance tallies for a 3-0 margin. Williamson surrendered a hit in the sixth and two more in the seventh before geting Chelsea Clark to strike out to end the game. Bott, in the second game, handcuffed NSU by allowing singles to Shaelyn Moore in the third and Candace Badger in the seventh. Bott fanned three and walked two in earning the shutout. Northeastern State will participate in the Lone Star Conference First Pitch Tournament this weekend at Southwest Park in Irving, Texas. Lady Reds Sweep Sugar Bears (2-14-06) TAHLEQUAH, OKLA --- Northeastern State received dominant pitching performances from India Williamson and Jessica Johnson to sweep Central Arkansas 5-2 and 6-0 in the season opener on Tuesday afternoon.The Lady Reds start the 2006 campaign 2-0, while Central Arkansas falls to 2-2. Northeastern jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the first inning as UCA pitcher Kattie Bowen walked Shay Moore and Rachael Christian. Moore then stole third and a Vanessa Cook ground out to second put the Lady Reds in front. The Lady Reds exploded for four runs in the fourth inning as Candace Badger, Dee Tatum, Brooke Smith and Rachael Christian all singled in the inning to push the lead to 5-0. UCA would score two runs in the fifth inning to make a 5-2 affair, but Williamson was too tough as she struck out eight Central Arkansas batters on the afternoon. In Game two, the Lady Reds captialized on three UCA errors in the first two innings to gain a 4-0 advantage. Northeastern would add two more runs in the fourth innings to secure the victory 6-0. Jessica Johnson threw seven shutout innings, striking out nine UCA batters.
