Lady Reds Fall in Double Overtime (11-1-04) Tahlequah, OK --- Northeastern State finished its 2004 season with a heartbreaking loss to Angelo State 5-4 in double overtime on a very muddy field at the NSU Soccer Complex.Angelo's Sheri Champlin scored three of her four goals in the first half to give the Rams a 3-0 advantage midway through the half. NSU countered with two goals of their own, with Charlotte Dinsdale converting a penalty kick and Nicole Long headed the ball in off of a corner kick from Michelle Clark to pull NSU to within 3-2 at the half. The Lady Reds quickly tied the match early in the second half. Valerie Mckee scored unassisted. NSU had several missed opportunities to pull ahead, but could not convert. The Rams took advantage of these miscues when Sheri Champlin broke through the NSU defense to net her fourth goal of the day with six minutes to go in the game. With just three minutes remaining, Kyndal Dooley scored off of a direct kick from Michell Clark to knot the game at 5-5 and send the match into the first overtime period. It was all defense in the first overtime,as either team could find the net. With five minutes remaining in the second overtime, Angelo State's Amanda Albrecht scored a controversal game winning goal to give the Rams the victory. Angelo State improves to 10-6-3 and 4-2-3 in conference. The Lady Reds wrap up its season with a mark of 8-10-1 and 2-6-1 in conferecne. Back to top
Lady Reds Fall to Midwestern (10-29-2004) Tahlequah, OK --- Northeastern State turned in another strong performance but came up short, as Midwestern defeated the Lady Reds 2-1 in a Lone Star Conference match.NSU played a superior first half on both ends of the field. At 26:43, Carly Pearce received a free kick from Michelle Clark and headed into the goal and to took a 1-0 advantage. The Lady Indians tied the game early in the second, when Crystal Sanchez scored the first of her two goals off a NSU turnover. Sanchez's second goal came off of another turnover with just five minutes remaining in the contest,to give Midwestern the hard fought victory. Midwestern improves to 11-3-4 and 5-2-1 in LSC play. The Lady Reds fall to 8-9-1 and 2-5-1 in LSC play. NSU will host Angelo State in the season finale on Sunday at the NSU Soccer Complex at 1:00 pm. Lady Reds Drop LSC Match at WTAMU (10-24-04) CANYON, Texas --- Katie Henley scored a pair of goals and three other West Texas A&M players also scored a goal each in a 5-0 shutout over Northeastern State here Sunday afternoon.The Lady Reds fell to 8-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in Lone Star Conference action, while the Lady Buffs improved to 10-4 and 4-3. West Texas A&M led 2-0 at the half on goals from Henley and Ashley Mosley, then put the match away when Henley scored her second goal of the contest at the 62:30 mark. The Lady Buffaloes added other scores at 69:19 and 76:58. NSU managed only seven shots on the day, compared to 22 for WTAMU. Lady Reds Fall to ENMU (10-22-04) PORTALES, NM --- Eastern New Mexico scored two first half goals, then held on to beat Northeastern State, 3-1, in a women's Lone Star Conference soccer match here Friday afternoon.The Lady Reds fell to 8-7-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league play, while the Zias improved to 9-8-0 and 2-4-0. Jessica Rosas and Lezlie Varner each scored a goal as ENMU opened up a 2-0 lead at intermission. Kacie Jo Hohenberger chipped in NSU's only goal of the match in the 55th minute before Lauren Standefer added an insurance tally on a penalty kick at the 61:05 mark for the final outcome. NSU had 13 shots and 10 on goal but Zia goalkeeper Amanda Vanlandingham was brilliant with nine saves. Northeastern State will meet West Texas A&M on Sunday in another LSC match in Canyon, Texas. Lady Reds Upset 18th Ranked Commerce (10-19-2004) Tahlequah, OK --- The Lady Reds turned in a superior defensive performance in 2-1 victory over Texas A&M Commerce.After a scorless first half, Charlotte Dinsdale took a pass from Kacie Jo Hohenberger and put it in the back of the net to give the Lady Reds a 1-0 advantage. A few moments later, Commerce's Melissa Arnold scored off of a free kick from 30 yards out, just over the out-stretched arms of goalkeeper Chelsey Hill. NSU sealed the victory when Aubrey Meeker scored with under two minutes remaining to complete the upset. Chelsey Hill turned in a great performance facing 18 shots and making seven saves. Northeastern State improves to 8-6-1 and 2-2-1 in LSC action. Commerce falls to 11-5-1 and 5-1 in conferecne play. Lady Reds, Pioneers Tie in LSC Match (10-14-04) TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State and Texas Woman's battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie this afternoon in a Lone Star Conference match at the NSU Soccer Complex.The Lady Reds saw their record go to 7-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in league play, while the Pioneers went to 4-9-1 and 1-2-1. NSU took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Cassie Bales looped a 25-yarder over the head of TWU goalkeeper Krista Elbert. However, Texas Woman's evened the match in the 65th minute with a Romy Luna goal. The two teams had other opportunities, but never convered the rest of the way. TWU outshot NSU 21 to 11 and Lady Reds' keeper Chelsey Hill logged six saves. The Redmen improved to 11-2 overall and 3-2 in Southwest Soccer Conference play with their sixth consecutive victory. Missouri Southern fell to 1-8-2 and remained winless in league action at 0-6-1. Sergio Salinas, Tony Douglas and Miguel Menduina each tallied goals for NSU. And, after being held scoreless in the opening 45 minutes, it didn't take the Redmen long to gain control of the contest with three goals over a four minute span. Salinas scored off a Dustin Lollis assist at the 58:41 mark and Douglas added his goal just 1:13 later for a 2-0 advantage. Menduina, who assisted on the Douglas goal, took a feed from Malvern Ntini and put it home at the 62:41 mark. Michael Sylvester recorded six saves and secured his fifth shutout of the year. Lady Reds Split Colorado Road Swing (10-3-04) Northeastern State rebounded from its lop-sided 12-1 decision to No. 7 Metro State on Friday with a 4-2 win over Colorado State-Pueblo on Sunday.The Lady Reds improved to 6-5 overall. Metro State improved to 9-1, while CSU-Pueblo fell to 6-4-2. Stacey Cutler's hat trick, three goals, helped NSU to the victory over Colorado State-Pueblo on Sunday. Cutler, who leads the team with 11 goals, scored twice in a 1:29 span in the first half to give the Lady Reds a 2-0 lead. However, CSU-P countered with a goal from Nancy DelMuro in the 39th minute and Jacqueline Sitar's header off a free kick in the 74th minute tied the match at 2-all Cutler put NSU in front for good at the 82:59 mark on an unassisted goal and Kyndal Dooley added an insurance tally in the 86th minute on Nicole Long's assist for the final verdict. Metro State scored seven goals in the first half, then added five more before Kacie Jo Hohenberger's goal helped NSU avoid the shutout with just :58 left. The Lady Reds won for the second time in as many outings and improved to 5-4 overall. Newman fell to 4-3-2. Carly Pearce started the festivities early with a chip shot from five yards out off Stacey Cutler's cross just 1:44 into the match for a 1-0 NSU advantage. Cutler scored 12:30 later on Charlotte Dinsdale's feed and Missy Fennell added an insurance tally in the 27th minute for a 3-0 cushion. Newman scored its only goal in the 54th minute when Katie Soria converted a corner kick but that's all the Lady Jets could muster. NSU was more offensive-minded, garnering 13 shots compared to just seven for Newman. Northeastern State will journey for a pair of regional games this weekend in Colorado. Lady Reds Spoil ECU Homecoming with 3-0 Victory (9/25/04) Ada, OK --- Northeastern State broke its four game losing skid with a 3-0 victory over East Central in a Lone Star Conference match Saturday.The game was a defensive battle through out the first half until Cassie Morrison's goal at 20:41 off of a deflection from seven yards out. The Lady Red's defense was led by Chelsey Hill who had 11 saves on the afternoon to record the shutout. It was a team effort to keep the Lady Tigers off the scoreboard. The second half the Lady Reds pulled away with the foot of Stacy Cutler who scored two goals, one off of a free kick and the second on a floater over the goalkeeper's head to seal the victory. Cutler's goals came less than eight minutes apart to break open the close affair. Northeastern improved to 4-4 on the season and returns to action Wednesday with Newman University at the NSU Soccer complex. East Central fell to 3-3-1. ORU Dominates Lady Reds (9-23-04) TULSA, Okla. --- Oral Roberts University broke open a close match here Thursday night with a five-goal barrage to race past Northeastern State, 7-1.NSU dropped its fourth straight and fell to 3-4 on the year. ORU improved to 6-3. Stacey Cutler's goal off a corner kick in the 37th minute brought the Lady Reds to within 2-1 and that stood until halftime. However, ORU erupted with five goals in the final 45 minutes. Emily Gagnon, who scored the game's first goal at the 24:49 mark, completed a hat trick with her second and third goals coming in the 50th and 62nd minutes. Heather Hall, who scored twice for the Golden Eagles, put ORU in front 4-1 with a goal less than a minute after Gagnon's second tally. She also scored off a corner kick with just :33 to play. Tamara Waller and Charissa Adelmann scored ORU's other goals. Overtime Goal Lifts NWOSU Past Lady Reds (9-16-04) ALVA, Okla. --- Sherina Wood scored an unassisted goal in the 105th minute to pace Northwestern Oklahoma State to a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Northeastern State here Thursday night.The Lady Rangers remained unbeaten and improved to 3-0-1 on the year. NSU dropped its third straight contest and had its recorded evened at 3-3-0. Wood's game-winner came at the 105.47 mark in the second overtime as she banged home the goal off the right pole. That broke a 1-1 deadlock which had stood since the 26th minute of the match. NWOSU took an early 1-0 advantage off an "own-goal" when Lady Reds' goalkeeper Chelsey Hill failed to corral a deflected ball off her own player. However, NSU countered 15 minutes later when Carly Pearce scored off Kacie Jo Hohenberger's assist. The Lady Reds were held in check offensively for much of the contest, attempting only 10 shots, four of those on goal. NWOSU keeper, Delydia Gay, logged three saves, while NSU's Hill had seven saves. UCO Upends NSU in LSC Soccer Action (9-14-04) EDMOND, Okla. --- A penalty kick just before halftime vaulted nationally-ranked Central Oklahoma to a 1-0 win over Northeastern State in the Lone Star Conference opener for both schools Tuesday.NSU dropped its second straight contest and fell to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. UCO improved to 4-1 and 1-0. Melissa Terry banged home the penalty kick for the Bronchos at the 44:54 mark which proved to be the game winner in the defensive-laden match. UCO had only three shots on goal, while NSU managed just one. Lady Reds Fall at OBU (9-7-04) ARKADELPHIA, Ark. --- Northeastern State's comeback bid fell short here Tuesday as the Lady Reds lost for the first time this season at Ouachita Baptist, 3-2.OBU's Rachel Folk scored the game-winner for the Lady Tigers in the 84th minute to break a 2-2 deadlock. Ouachita had taken a 2-0 lead early in the second half before Stacey Cutler's goal in the 71st minute and Whitney Pratt's talley seven minutes later knotted the match at 2-all. The Lady Reds had just seven shots in the opening period, but came back with 17 in the final 45 minutes to forge the tie. NSU Lady Reds Win Home Opener (8-31-04) Tahlequah, OK --- The Northeastern State Lady Reds have started this soccer season off strong. After winning their season opener last week against Oklahoma City University, they returned home for the first time this season to face Harding University.Stacey Cutler began the scoring in the first half as she scored a goal at 32:07 off of a rebound from Charlotte Dinsdale and Kacie Jo Hohenberger. The Lady Reds took a 1-0 lead into the break. In the second half, Harding's Lady Bison came out strong as Becky Taylor scored an unassisted goal at 52:03. Both teams played to a stalemate as regulation time winded down. A very energetic and excited Northeastern State squad took the field in the sudden death overtime period as Carly Pearce scored the game-winner from Kyndal Dooley after a beautiful corner kick. Harding University dropped to 2-1 after the defeat, and the Lady Reds moved to 2-0 here in the early season. NSU next takes the field on Friday against Central Arkansas at 2:30 here in Tahlequah.
