Season Ends With A Shutout (10-30-05)

     AUSTIN, Texas --- St. Edward's University scored a pair of first half goals, then cruised to a 3-0 shutout over visiting Northeastern State here Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match.

     The Lady Reds saw their season come to an end with the loss. NSU finished the year at 7-10-1 overall and 3-5-1 in Lone Star Conference play, narrowly missing the six-team postseason tournament by mere percentage points. SEU improved to 6-10-2 on the season.

     Aimee Langlinais scored for SEU in the 35th minute and Priscila Cano added a goal just 5:31 later for a 2-0 cushion. Monica Hernandez tallied the other score in the 51st minute.

     NSU had only four shots on goal during the match and Sarah Spencer recorded six saves in a losing cause.

Lady Reds Cage Tigers on Senior Day (10-27-05)

     TAHLEQUAH, OKLA --- Two underclassman stole the show on Senior Day 2005 as the Lady Reds shutout the Tigers of East Central 2-0.

     The Lady Reds improve to 7-9-1 and 3-5-1 in LSC play this season and East Central falls to 2-15 and 0-9 in conference action.

     The Lady Reds struck first in the contest, as Missy Fennell was in the right place at the right time as the goalkeeper mishandle the kick and Fennell notched her first goal of the season giving Northeastern a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half.

     Robin Sutherland took a throwin from Katie Garcia and headed it into the net for her 11th goal of the year, putting the Lady Reds up 2-0.

     That would be all the Lady Reds would need, as East Central only could muster two shots on goal, giving goalkeeper Sarah Spence her third victory this season.

     The three seniors Kyndal Dooley, Michelle Clark and Cassie Douglas were honored before the match for their contributions to the Lady Reds Soccer program, all three played as true freshmen.

     The Lady Reds play its final game of the 2005 season on Sunday Oct. 30 against St. Edwards University in Austin, TX, gametime is set for 12:00 p.m..

Lady Reds Lose LSC Shootout (10-19-05)

     WICHITA FALLS, Texas --- Robin Sutherland scored a pair of goals and three other Lady Reds added a goal each, but that wasn't enough to lift Northeastern State to a victory here Wednesday afternoon.

     Midwestern State's Megan Bibilone provided a "hat trick" to propel the Lady Indians to a bizarre 8-5 Lone Star Conference soccer win over NSU. The 13 combined goals established new school records for both teams as MSU improved to 6-6-1 overall and 4-2 in league play. The Lady Reds dropped to 6-9-1 and 2-5-1.

     Bibilone scored twice in the opening 13:44 and Melissa Brown added another for what appeared to be a comfortable 3-0 Midwestern advantage at the 18:01 mark.

     However, Sutherland converted a penalty kick in the 28th minute and Ashley Badeen netted a Joanne Spalding cross just 1:38 into the second half to bring NSU to within 3-2.

     Bibilone added her third goal of the day less than two minutes later as the Lady Indians regained momentum. Lauren Sierra tallied a score in the 59th minute and Megan Dodson's goal at 69:39 put MSU up 6-2.

     The two teams combined to score five goals in the final 17 minutes of the match. Kacie Hohenberger's unassisted goal made it 6-3, Dodson added her second goal 6:16 later before Charlotte Dinsdale and Sutherland each found the back of the net as NSU crept to within 7-5.

     Sabrina Periman's header with :04 left put an end to the wild affair.

     NSU's Sarah Spencer, who replaced starting goalkeeper Chelsey Hill after Midwestern's third goal, recorded 10 saves but allowed five goals. MSU played without its regular keeper and backup Heather Primavera logged just four saves and gave up five goals.

     Northeastern State will continue LSC play Oct. 27 when it hosts East Central in the final home match of the 2005 season.

Lady Reds Win Thriller (10-16-05)

     TAHLEQUAH, Okla. ---- Charlotte Dinsdale's goal with just three minutes to go in the second half gave the Lady Reds a 1-0 Lone Star Conference Victory at the NSU Soccer Complex this afternoon.

     Both teams missed scoring opportituntites as Northeastern fired 14 shots at Lady Zias's goalkeeper Stephanie Sanchez only five were on goal.

     The Lady Reds used its speed to confuse Eastern New Mexico as the Lady Zias never could mount any offensive rhythum in the match.

     NSU goalkeeper Chelsey collected her third shut out of the year, stopping four ENMU shots.

     The Lady Reds improved to 6-8-1 and 2-4-1 in LSC action, the Lady Zias fall to 10-5 and 3-2 in LSC play.

     Northeastern State will hit the road again this Wednesday as it will travel to Midwestern State to take on the Lady Indians. Kickoff is schedule for 4:00 p.m..

NSU Drops LSC Shootout (10-14-05)

     TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Katie Henley's goal at the 8:03 mark of the first half held up as West Texas A&M earned a 1-0 shutout over Northeastern State in a women's Lone Star Conference match here Friday afternoon.

     The loss dropped NSU to 5-8-1 overall and 1-4-1 in league play, while WTAMU improved to 7-3-1 and 4-1.

     Henley's unassisted tally came when Lady Reds' keeper, Chelsey Hill, deflected an errant WT shot and Henley drove home the rebound for the game's only goal.

     The Lady Buffaloes controlled the match with 16 shots, eight on goal, compared to just nine for NSU. WTAMU's Sarah Anderson logged four saves and preserved the shutout.

     Northeastern State will continue LSC play on Sunday when it hosts Eastern New Mexico at noon at the NSU Soccer Complex.

Lady Reds Head to Victory Over Tigers (10-11-05)

      Tahlequah, Okla. --- Katie Garcia's goal early in the second half proved to be the difference in a 3-2 victory over the Lady Tigers of Ouachita Baptist.

     The Lady Reds struck first in the first period as Robin Southerland headed the ball into the top right corner of the goal to go up 1-0.

     Kacie Hohenberger struck next as she took a throw-in from Garcia and headed it in to put the Lady Reds in front 2-0 at the half.

     Northeastern was not finished, just 10 minutes into the second half Garcia put the ball into the net in what turned out to the winning goal.

     Ouachita did not however go down without a fight, with 28 minutes remaining, NSU's Missy Fennell was given a red card which forced the Lady Reds to be a player down the rest of the half.

     The Lady Tigers took full advantage of this as they scored to goals to pull to within 3-2, but the Lady Reds held off the surge to win its fifth game of the year.

     Northeastern improved to 5-7-1 on the year and will be in action this Friday against the Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M at the NSU Soccer Complex, kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.

Pioneers Sneak Past Lady Reds (10-9-05)

     Denton, TX --- The Lady Reds comeback attempt in the second half fell short in a 3-2 loss to Texas Women's University this afternoon.

     The Pioneers scored twice in the first half as Emily Meinen's shot off a goalie deflection in the 18th minute gave the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage. Just two minutes later Christine Hornisher put a free kick in the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.

     The Lady Reds got on the board just two minutes into the second half as Kacie Hohenberger took a cross from Kyndall Dooley to cut the lead to 2-1.

     Texas Women's Emily Meinen scored her second goal of the game in the 68th minute off a cross from Erica BUtler to seal the Pioneer victory.

     NSU's Ashely Badeen found the net with just five minutes remaining in the contest to pull within 3-2.

     Lady Red's goalie Chelsey Hill played all 90 minutes and had 11 saves in the loss.

Lady Reds Snap Skid (9-25-05)

     TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State used a pair of first-half goal to shutout Southwestern Oklahoma State, 2-0, here Sunday afternoon.

     The Lady Reds improved to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in Lone Star Conference soccer action, while the Bulldogs dropped to 4-4 and 1-1. The NSU victory also halted a four-game losing streak.

     Northeastern got an "own goal" in the sixth minute when Kyndall Dooley's corner kick got away from the SWOSU keeper and found the net for a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, Brittany Coursey drove home a 15-yarder from the near post off Robin Sutherland's cross and NSU led 2-0 at the 38:38 mark.

     That was the only real scoring threat the rest of the way.

     Southwestern had seven shots on goal, most of which were weak attempt easily saved by NSU keeper Chelsey Hill. Hill logged the shutout with seven saves on the day and her counterpart, Lindsey Crook, managed three saves, but gave up the two goals.

     Northeastern State will step out of conference play with a pair of matches on the road. NSU will travel to Wichita, Kansas, to meet Newman University on Sept. 30 before taking on Oral Roberts in Tulsa on Oct. 4.

Golden Goal Eludes Lady Reds (9-20-05)

     TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Sarah Addison's goal in the 102 minute Tuesday lifted visiting Central Oklahoma to a 3-2 double-overtime Lone Star Conference victory over Northeastern State.

     Addison, who took a Lacy Williams cross from the far post, came out of the bunch gathered around the NSU net with the game-winner from five yards away to give UCO (4-3, 1-0) the win.

     Northeastern State, which has dropped four straight, fell to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.

     Robin Sutherland put NSU in front with a header off Katie Garcia's long throw-in just 15:45 into the match for a 1-0 advantage.

     The Bronchos countered at the 35 minute mark on an unassisted goal from Jenny Racicot and the teams were tied at 1-all at intermission.

     Early in the second frame, Meleia Bacon toed home a penalty kick and it appeared that would be all UCO needed. But, Garcia's chip shot from 25 yards out, off a perfect cross from Valerie McKee, tied the game for Northeastern in the 82nd minute to force overtime.

     NSU managed the only shot in the first 10 minute sudden death OT before Addison scored the "Golden Goal" 1:17 into the second overtime.

     Statistically, the match was as even as the score. The Lady Reds had seven shots on goal, compared to eight for UCO. Each team recorded five saves on the afternoon.

     Northeastern State, which has played five games in the past eight days, will get a much-needed respite and won't take the field again until Sunday, Sept. 25 when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. in another LSC encounter.

Rattlers Blank NSU (9-18-05)

     SAN ANTONIO, Texas --- St. Mary's logged 17 shots and limited Northeastern State to just five in a 3-0 soccer shutout here Sunday afternoon.

     The loss dropped the Lady Reds to 2-4 overall as NSU lost for the third time in as many outings.

     The Lady Rattlers scored led 1-0 at halftime on the strength of Deann Lopez' goal in the 29th minute, then put the game on ice with goals from Amanda McMullan and Rachel Maldonado less than three minutes apart in the final 45 minutes.

     NSU managed just two shots on goal.

     Northeastern State will open Lone Star Conference play on Tuesday at home when it host Central Oklahoma at 3 p.m.

Incarnate Word Holds Off Lady Reds (9-16-05)

     SAN ANTONIO, Texas --- Robins Sutherland scored two of Northeastern State's three second-half goals, but that wasn't enough as host Incarnate Word edged the Lady Reds 4-3 in a non-conference soccer match here Friday afternoon.

     The loss dropped NSU to 2-3 overall, while UIW improved to 4-1.

     Incarnate Word opened up a 3-0 lead in the first half on goals from Barbara Butts, Amber Cole and Ashley Molock before Northeastern regrouped to make things interesting late.

     Sutherland's first tally came in the 66th minute and Jennifer White added another NSU goal just four minutes later to bring the Lady Reds to within 3-2.

     However, Lindsey Gramley scored the deciding goal in the 75th minute to overshadow Sutherland's second goal with 8:13 remaining in the match.

     Northeastern State will play St. Mary's on Sunday in San Antonio before opening Lone Star Conference play at home on Tuesday against Central Oklahoma.

Lady Reds Drop LSC Opener at Angelo State (9-14-05)

     SAN ANGELO, Texas --- Catherine Knaub assisted on three goals to lead Angelo State to a 4-0 shutout over Northeastern State in the Lone Star Conference soccer opener for both schools here Wednesday afternoon.

     The loss dropped NSU to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. ASU improved to 3-4 and 1-0.

     The only goal of the first half came when the Belles took the lead for good on Amanda Walzel's goal 28 minutes into the match off a Knaub corner kick for a 1-0 advantage.

     Tricia Evers and Angela Chavez tallied less than six minutes apart to put the match out of reach. Knaub assisted on both of those goals with Evers' coming at the 57:50 mark and Chavez' in the 64th minute.

     ASU closed out the scoring with 2:15 left when Audrey Goldman found the back of the net of a Nicole Long assist.

     NSU was limited to eight shots. Backup keeper, Sarah Spencer, who made her second start in place of the injured Chelsey Hill, logged six saves.

     Northeastern State will continue its road swing when it meets Incarnate Word at 5 p.m. Friday and St. Mary's at noon on Sunday.

Lady Reds Soar Past John Brown (9-12-05)

     Tahlequah, Okla.---- Carol Melo's home debut as head coach of the Lady Reds went exactly as planned, a 3-1 victory over the Eagles of John Brown University.

     Northeastern jumped out to the early lead 1-0, when Charlotte Dinsdale scored her third goal of the year by heading the ball past the goalie from a Katie Garcia throw in 30 yards away.

     NSU added another goal four minutes later as Robin Sutherland scored her second goal of the season off a chip shot from inside the box to put the Lady Reds up 2-0.

     John Brown answered back just before the end of the half as Dawn Storie had a one on one opportunity and converted to the NSU lead in half 2-1.

     The Lady Reds however sealed the win with 27:00 minutes to go in the match as Kyndall Dooley scored her second goal of the season to go ahead 3-1.

     Backup goalie Sarah Spencer only faced seven shots on the afternoon with only one of those on goal.

     The Lady Reds improve to 2-1 on the young season and will hit the road this week to face Angelo State, Incarnate Word and St. Mary's before returning home on Sept. 20 to face the Lady Bronchos of Central Oklahoma.

Lady Reds Earn Shutout In Season Opener (8-30-05)

     SEARCY, Ark. --- Northeastern State opened its 2005 women's soccer season with a 3-0 shutout at Harding on Tuesday afternoon. The victory was even more special for new NSU head coach Carol Melo who got her first college coaching victory.

     The Lady Reds tallied three times in the second period to record the shutout in Melo's coaching debut. Robin Sutherland and Ashley Badeen put the game away with back-to-back goals just 1:43 apart for a 2-0 lead. Kyndal Dooley netted a left cross from Joanne Spalding and Sutherland for NSU's other goal in the 81st minute for the final 3-0 verdict.

     NSU had 15 shots, compared to only 10 for the Lady Bison. Harding (0-2) managed just one shot on goal and that was saved by Lady Reds' keeper Chelsey Hill.

     Northeastern State will journey to Conway on Friday to face Central Arkansas in a 1 p.m. match. NSU's first home game will be Sept. 12 in Tahlequah against John Brown.
