For games with photos click-on Sports Home above. 2005-06 News Western New Mexico Captures West Regional (5-2-06) MUSKOGEE, Okla. --- Katharine Dorris fired a one-over-par 72 to lead No. 2 seed Western New Mexico University to a thrilling five shot victory over pre-tournament favorite Western Washington in the NCAA Division II Womens Golf West Regional at Muskogee Country Club Tuesday afternoon.Western New Mexico and Western Washington both advance to the NCAA-II Women Golf National Championship tournament at The Meadows Golf Club in Allendale, Mich., May 10-13, 2006. Dorris tied Northeastern State's Alli Toomer, who shot a tournament-low round of 70 on the final day. The duo were crowned co-medalists for the event with 54-hole totals of 223. Toomer and St. Edward's University's Allison Kinser also advance to the national tourney as individual competitors. The Mustangs shot 933 for the tournament, followed by WWU's at 938, St. Edward's at 945, Northeastern State at 961, CSU-Chico State at 972 and St. Mary's (Texas) at 975. The Mustangs led by nine shots heading into the last day after blistering the par-71 course for a 305 in Monday's second round. However, Western Washington, behind Katja Trygg's 72, came roaring back to trail by only three shots twice before bowing out late. Western New Mexico Leads West Regional (5-1-06) MUSKOGEE, Okla. --- Western New Mexico University landed three players in the top 10 to lead the NCAA Division II 2006 Women's West Regional Golf Championships at Muskogee Country Club after the first day of competition.WNMU, the No. 2 seed, rode the hot hands of Katharine Dorris (78-73=151), Kim Cammer (79-75=154) and Heather Dorris (77-78=155) to shoot a 36-hole total of 620, some nine strokes ahead of St. Edward's University and favorite Western Washington. Host Northeastern State is third at 639, followed by St. Mary's (Texas) at 642 and CSU-Chico State at 652. K. Dorris is tied with Grand Canyon's Jessica McKay in the individual race, while Cammer is tied for eighth and H. Dorris is tied for 10th overall. Heather Dorris rebounded after carding a 78 on the first 18 holes by tying the low round of the day with a 73 on the final 18. NSU's Alli Toomer was leading after the first round after shooting a 73, but the Gypsum, Colo. senior, struggled on her final round with an 80 and is tied for fifth overall. NSU Wins Both LSC Golf Championships (4-18-06) TROPHY CLUB, Texas --- On a day when the heat was almost blistering, Northeastern State's men's and women's golf teams were the ones on fire as both claimed the team championships in the annual Lone Star Conference Golf Tournament at the prestigious Trophy Club Country Club.The Lady Reds returned to the glory days by winning the event for the fifth time in eight years, but it was the first since 2002. Alli Toomer overcame a first round 78 by firing a the tournament's best round on Tuesday with a two-under-par 70 as NSU carded a 303 to win the team title by a whopping 14 strokes over Tarleton State. Toomer's 148 was good enough for her to claim the medalist honor and it was the first win of her senior season. Lady Reds Finish 9th at Payne Stewart Memorial (4-4-06) SPRINGFIELD, Mo --- Northeastern State fired a final round 339 and a team total of 1017 to finish ninth at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial at the River Front Golf Club in Springfield on Tuesday.The Trojans of Arkansas-Little Rock ran away with the tournament finishing 37 shots ahead of second place Illinois State and 40 shots better than Bradley University. Allison Toomer carded three consective rounds of 80, to finish 13th in the medalist race. Drury University, the only other Division II school in the field, finished sixth with a team total of 984. NSU's Stephanie Bird tied for 39th with a total of 255, Courtney Epps tied for 50th with a 259, Marrik Wooten tied for 69th with a 268 and Tracy Meadows tied for 77th with a 272 total for the tournament. Lady Reds in 9th at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial (4-3-06) SPRINGFIELD, MO --- Northeastern State sits in ninth place after the first day of competition at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial on Monday.The Lady Reds fired a two-round total of 678, which is 57 shots off the pace set by Arkansas-Little Rock and Missouri State. Allison Toomer leads the way for the Lady Reds, Toomer carded two rounds of 80 to finish in a tie for 12th and Stephanie Bird finished in a tie for 27th with a two round total of 168. Northeastern State and Drury are the only two Division II in the field, the rest is comprised of Division I schools. The Lady Reds set 13 shots behind the Panthers heading into the final round on Tuesday. Lady Reds Finish Third at Grand Canyon (3-29-06) GOODYEAR, AZ --- Northeastern State fired a final round 310 to finish in a tie for third at the Grand Canyon Invitational at the Palm Valley Golf Course on Tuesday.The Lady Reds finished just six shots behind Western Washington and one shot back of St. Mary's. Senior Allison Toomer led the way for the Lady Reds shooting a nine-over par 153 to finish in a tie for ninth and Courtney Epps finished in a tie for 15th with 12 over par 156 in the medalist race. UCO's Ashley Kelly drained a 25-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to win the medalist honors. The Lady Reds will travel to Springfield, Missouri on April 3-4, to take part in the Payne Stewart Memorial Invitational. NSU Fires 311, Tied for 3rd (3-27-06) GOODYEAR, Ariz. --- Northeastern State carded a 311 Monday and the Lady Reds are tied for third after the first round of the Grand Canyon Invitational at Palm Valley Golf Course.Alli Toomer's two-over-par 74 led the way for NSU and the senior is tied for fifth in the medalist race. Grand Canyon's Jessica McKay and Rachel Clark, from West Texas A&M, had the day's low rounds as each turned in scores of even-par 72. Western Washington leads the 17-team field after firing a 306. The Vikings are two shots ahead of St. Mary's (Texas) and five better than NSU and Chico State. Western New Mexico and St. Edward's are still in the hunt at 312. Lady Reds Finish Fourth at Pepsi Lady Lion Invitational (3-21-06) POTTSBORO, TEXAS --- Northeastern State fired a final round 341 to finish fourth at the Pepsi Lady Lion Invitational here Tuesday.Redlands CC won the event by 27 shots over Central Arkansas and 29 shots better than St. Edward's. Redlands Camila Sola won the medalists honors with a two-day total fo 154, two shots better than teammate Woori Shin. Allie Toomer finished tied for eighth with a two-day total of 165, Courtney Epps, who was eighth after the first round, finished in a tie for 11th with a 169. Other NSU scores, Stephanie Bird tied for 28th with a 177, Marrik Wooten finished 33rd with a 178 and Tracy Meadows was 37th with a 181. The Lady Reds will travel to Phoenix, AZ to take part in the GCU Spring Invitational on March 27-28. Back to top
Lady Reds Grab Second In Rattler Classic (2/26/06) SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS --- Western Washington overcame an eight shot deficit with a tournament-low 298 in Sunday's final round to claim the team championship at the Lady Rattler Hill Country Classic at the Golf Club of Texas.Northeastern State, the first round leader, shot a 312 on the final 18 holes and slipped to second place with a 611, six shots behind the Vikings' 605. Drury was third at 617, host St. Mary's was fourth at 637 and Hawaii-Hilo rounded out the top five at 639. Tonya Choate, of Drury, won the medalist honor by carding rounds of 75-73-148. NSU's Stephanie Bird was a shot back and tied for second in the indivual race with a 149 with Central Oklahoma's Ashley Kelley and Western Washington's Candice Wagner. Northeastern's Alli Toomer and Courtney Epps, who were the first round leaders, each fired a final round 79 and dropped into a tie for sixth place at 152.

NSU Tops Leader Board At Lady Rattler Classic (2/25/06) SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS --- The Lady Reds fired a school record 299 in the first round of the Lady Rattler Hill Country Classic at the Golf Club of Texas on Saturday afternoon.Allison Toomer and Courtney Epps are tied atop the leaderboard with rounds of 73 and Stephanie Bird fired a career low 75 and is tied for fifth after one round. Northeastern is eight shots ahead of second place Western Washington (307) and 11 shots ahead of Drury (310).

Lady Reds Finish 12th Aginst NCAA Div I Teams (2/21/06) CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas --- Ordinarilly, a 12th place finish wouldn't sound all that great for Northeastern State's Lady Reds golf team.However, finishing 12th at the Ed Hicks Nissan Islander Spring Classic where 13 of the 16 teams were NCAA Division I institutions, the end result was quite impressive. The Lady Reds fired a final round of 315, the lowest of the 2005-2006 seasons, and freshman Stephanie Bird ended the tourney in a tie for 15th place overall. A comparison of scores showed NSU's card was five shots lower than Oral Roberts University on the final 18 holes. Arkansas Little Rock led from wire-to-wire to win the event at the Corpus Christi Country Club with an 899, eight shots better than Redlands Community College. Host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was third at 920, Bradley was fourth with a 928 and North Texas finished in fifth with a 931. Redlands' Camila Sola was medalist with a two-under-par 214. Bird carded rounds of 79-73-78 for a 230, while teammate Alli Toomer was steady with 79-78-76=233 to tie for 25th place overall. NSU's other scores and order of finish were Marrik Wooten (78-85-81=244 / T-52nd), Courtney Epps (85-83-80=248 / T65th) and Tracy Meadows (88-84-84=256 / T79th). The Lady Reds will remain in Texas the remainder of the week and will participate in the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational at the Golf Course of Texas on Saturday and Sunday. Back to top
Lady Reds Finish 5th at Coca-Cola Classic (10-11-05) Grandbury, TX --- The Lady Reds came into the final round in second place, but after a shooting a final round of 324, Northeastern dropped all the way to fifth at the Tarleton State Coca-Cola Classic at the Harbor Lakes Country Club in GrandBury Texas this afternoon.The host team Tarleton State won the team title with a two-round score of 608, 14 shots better than second place Central Oklahoma and 23 shots better than St.Mary's which finished third. The medalist honor went to Tarleton's Alesha Hurt in a playoff with St. Edward's Allison Kinser and Central Oklahoma's Emily Kirk. Lady Reds Second at Coca-Cola Classic (10-10-05) GRANBURY, Texas --- Alli Toomer, Stephanie Bird and Courtney Epps helped lead Northeastern State to a team score of 311 and the Lady Reds are in second place after the first round of the Coca-Cola Classic at Harbor Lakes Golf Course here Monday.Tarleton State, the event’s host, shot a 303 and has an eight shot lead over NSU heading into Tuesday’s final 18 holes. Toomer had a two-over-par 74 for the Lady Reds, while Bird fired a 75 and Epps carded a 78. Each are featured on the leaderboard at second, fourth and 11th, respectively. TSU’s Alesha Hurt fired the best round of the day at even-par 72. The TexAnns counted four scores in the 70s to take a commanding lead. Lady Reds Struggle at ORU Shootout (10-3-05) TULSA, Okla. --- Host Oral Roberts University carded rounds of 305 and 304 Monday to lead the opening day of the ORU Shootout at Meadowbrook Country Club.The Golden Eagles are a shot ahead of the University of Kansas, which fired a 312 on the opening 18 holes but blistered the course for a low-round of 298 at the end of the day. Northeastern State also saw its first round balloon with a 337, but shaved 17 strokes off its score later in the afternoon, good enough for 657 and a 13th place showing in the 17-team, NCAA Division I dominated event. KU's Chelsey Pryor leads the individual race with rounds of 74-74-148, two shots better than ORU's Christy Carter. The Lady Reds' Alli Toomer had NSU's best score of the day and the Gypsum, Colo., senior is in a tie for 24th at 157. Lady Reds Finish Fourth at Grand Canyon (9-28-05) Phoenix, Ariz.--- Northeastern State fired a 305 in the final round and finished with a 631 (+40) to claim fourth place at the Grand Canyon Women's Fall Invitational.Western Washington carded a 591 to win by a whopping 20 shots over second place Western New Mexico (611). NSU'S Alli Toomer took fourth in the medalist race with a two round total of 149 (+5). Western Washington Claims Classic Title (9-20-05) MUSKOGEE, Okla. --- Western Washington came farther than any other school to claim the annual NSU Women's Golf Classic at Cobblestone Creek Golf Club Tuesday.The Vikings, who entered the final round with a two shot lead over Drury, fired a 303 on the final 18 holes to win by six strokes over the Lady Panthers. Northeastern State dropped from sixth to seventh in the final standings despite an eight shot deficit from Monday's opening round. The Lady Reds, thanks to Alli Tommer's 75, had a 313 on the final day. Toomer's 152 was good enough for fourth place overall. Drury's Tonya Choate claimed medalist honors with a pair of 74s to finish one shot better than WWU's Katja Trygg. Katy Williams, of St. Edward's, had the tournament's low round on Tuesday with a one-under 71. Western Washington Leads NSU Classic MUSKOGEE, Okla. --- Catherine Kim and Katja Trygg combined to shoot five-over-par and Western Washington leads after the first round of the NSU Women's Golf Classic at Cobblestone Creek Golf Club Monday.As a team, the Vikings shot 311 and are two shots ahead of second place Drury heading into Tuesday final 18 holes. Central Arkansas (314), Tarleton State (316) and St. Mary's of Texas (319) round out the top five. Host Northeastern State carded a 321 with senior Alli Toomer leading the way with a 77. Kim had the round's best finish at one-over-par 73. Drury's Tonya Choate is just a shot behind at 74 and UCA's Nicole Forshner is third at 75. Trygg and Central Oklahoma's Ashley Kelly are still in the medalist hunt at 76 apiece.
