Redmen Skid Reaches Eight Games (4-15-06)

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State failed twice to hold leads entering the latter stages of the game and that proved costly as Cameron swept the Redmen, 9-8 and 19-9, in a Lone Star North baseball twinbill at Rousey Field Saturday afternoon.

NSU, now 12-34 overall and 4-11 in league action, dropped its eighth consecutive game. CU, which swept the five game series against the Redmen this year, improved to 27-17 and 12-3 to stay in a tie in first place in the LSC North with Central Oklahoma.

Cody Cisper and Branden Stidham surrendered five runs without a hit as the pair combined to walk five, one hit batsman and shortstop, Joel Eusebio, committed an error. Jonathan Wygle stymied the Cameron five-run rally by striking out one and catcher, Nash Garcia, threw out an Aggie baserunner attempting to steal second.

Zach Hamby, a freshman first baseman, led NSU's 10-hit attack by going three-for-four at the plate with a single, double and home run to collect four RBIs. Eric Humphrey hit the first of his two homers on the afternoon in the first game and was two-for-four for the game.

The nightcap turned into another horrendous finish for the Redmen. NSU built an 8-5 cushion by scoring three times in the fourth, two of those coming off Joe Jennett's home run, and four more in the fifth after Humphrey hit a two-run homer and Joel Garcia added another two-run shot later in the frame.

However, Cameron scored 14 runs in the final two innings, six in the sixth and eight in the seventh, to record the lopsided victory.

Aggies Trim Redmen Twice (3-29-06)

LAWTON, Okla. --- Northeastern State dropped its Lone Star North Division openers in heartbreaking fashion Wednesday as Cameron swept the Redmen, 10-9 and 1-0.

The Aggies (17-14 and 2-0 in LSC North action) overcame a 7-3 deficit with five runs in the fourth inning to win the opener, then scored an unearned run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn the sweep. NSU fell to 8-25 and 0-2.

Kevin Humphrey, a freshman southpaw, was cruising along in the fourth after the Redmen had plated three runs in the first and four in the third for a 7-3 margin. However, CU took advantage of a Redmen error and Humphrey surrendered two home runs in the frame, and the Aggies turned a four run deficit into a 9-7 lead.

Each team added a run in the sixth and NSU scored once in the seventh to pull to within 10-9. But, that's as close as the Redmen got when Cody McCarter grounded into a fielder's choice to end the game with two runners aboard.

Nash Garcia and McCarter hit back-to-back homers for the Redmen in the first inning. Garcia and freshman, Zach Hamby, had three hits apiece as NSU attacked Cameron's pitching staff for 13 hits in the opener. Humphrey took the loss by giving up 10 Aggie hits and only five of his 10 runs were earned. The Owasso product fanned six and walked two as his record on the hill fell to 3-4.

In the nightcap, sophomore Cody Cisper pitched a gem, scattering just four hits and striking out nine despite suffering the loss. Cisper retired the first two hitters in the Cameron eighth, but hit Waylon Pettet and the speedy outfielder stole second base. After Pettet moved to third on a wild pitch, B.J. Cole's grounder to Redmen shortstop Joel Eusebio was mishandled, allowing Pettet to score the game-winning unearned run.

CU hurler, Ryan Totte, pitched a complete game and handcuffed the Redmen, giving up just three hits as he improved to 3-2. Cisper took the loss and fell to 2-6.
